To the spoils belongs the victor

Posted by John T. Reed on

To the spoils belongs the victor. Marshall MacLuhan said that. I love that line. As Harvard MBAs my wife and I know an unusual number of wealthy people. My middle son also got to know David Geffen, the richest man in Hollywood and others in that crowd..One thing I noticed is that in many ways, the things that YOU own OWN YOU. In my book How to Manage Residential Real Estate for Maximum Case Flow and Resale Value, I calculated that for each residential rental unit, you have to spend 4.6 hours on the various chores the unit demands: leasing,...

John T. Reed’s review of the book The Coveted Black and Gold [U.S. Army ranger tab]

Posted by John T. Reed on

My birthday gift from my ranger buddy is a book about ranger school based on the diary of a West Point cadet who went there in June and July 1980 while he was a cadet on summer leave. My ranger buddy and I and about half of our West Point class went there in Class #69-3 in August, September and October of 1968..First, giving up your summer leave to go to ranger school strikes me as certifiable insanity. Cut them no slack. Make them behave like Switzerland or Japan or Canada. .How can anyone complain about that? Another...

My punt returners practiced picking up an ignored scrimmage kick and running it back for TD. But the only game where I saw it happen was on of my youngest son’s freshman games where I was in the stands as a father. I kept screaming “Live ball” to the players after a field goal attempt fell short of the end zone and stayed in the field of play. One of the other fathers...

What is really change-your-life important, is rarely covered in the media, and what they do cover is chose solely for its ability to get ratings.

I recently did a post saying that too many people are all excited about unimportant stuff that the media emphasizes and not excited enough about truly important matters. . I said judge and justice appointments are among the not-important things. A reader said he “begged to differ.” Fine. Tell me how Gorsuch and Kavanaugh have your life or mine since they were confirmed. So far, he offers nothing. . Like I said. . I cannot find a single US Supreme Court decision that changed my life since I turned ten years old in 1956. Yes, there has been a ton...
