Ninth Circuit ‘judicial nullification’ is an impeachable offense

Posted by John Reed on

Jury nullification occurs when a jury returns a verdict of "Not Guilty" despite its belief that the defendant is guilty of the violation charged. The jury in effect nullifies a law that it believes is either immoral or wrongly applied to the defendant whose fate they are charged with deciding. (UMKC.edu)Nothing can be done about jury nullification because we cannot read the minds of jurors. What happened in the Seattle District Court and the Ninth Circuit last week was JUDICIAL nullification. Can anything be done about that? Yes. It’s an impeachable offense. Can we read their minds? Yes. They give the...

I just put more money in Canada; you probably should, too

Posted by John Reed on

I talked to my Canadian banker yesterday because I sent her some more money to put into my Canadian dollar savings account. The danger today is our debt-to-GDP ratio is too high, almost at the record level it hit after World War II. Plus, Trump wants to spend much more on the military and infrastructure and enact big tax cuts. That is likely to worsen the debt-to-GDP ratio which I regard as the main indicator of hyperinflation probability. He hopes growth will prevent the deficit from widening. I hope so too, but in the spirit of Praise the Lord and...

Bragging about ‘treasure troves’ of intelligence is appalling stupidity

Posted by John Reed on

During World War II, we and the British in separate incidents captured German submarines, more particularly, their code machines and books. This success was treated as an ultra secret. The resulting POWs were hidden and the Red Cross and other rules that we tell their home country about them were violated.Nowadays, Whether the president is Obama, Bush, or even Trump, they brag about the great “treasure trove” of intelligence they got. We saw it with bin Laden and recently wit a SEAL operation in Yemen. This is insane, the 180-degree opposite of the correct course. When the enemy knows or even...

The Ninth Circuit was right about ‘under God’ in the Pledge of Allegiance

Posted by John Reed on

The first case always cited by enemies of the Ninth Circuit Appear court to prove it’s too liberal is their saying the words “under God” should be removed from the Pledge of Allegiance.   Notwithstanding that the Supreme Court overruled them, the Ninth Circuit’s decision was correct.   Do you know who put those words INTO the Pledge? The Knights of Columbus, the men’s auxiliary to your local Catholic church.   It’s obviously unconstitutional and always has been. The Supreme Court treated the First Amendment words “establish a religion” as if they said CHOOSE a religion. At West Point we had...

Wall Street Journal turning blatantly anti-Trump

Posted by John Reed on

What happened to the Wall Street Journal? In today’s issue, I saw article after article pushing a liberal Democrat view of Trump..Janet Hook, Kristina Peterson, and Reid J. Epstein said Trump was stoking a war with Dems and creating unease with Republicans dimming chances for cross party compromise and limiting what he can get done..Losing politicians are big on compromise and reaching across the aisle and all that. It is their substitute for victory. Trying to con the winners into letting the losers have their way. Be nice to your bitter opponents and you’ll get more accomplished. There could be...
