Nobody is ready for a world war, including China.

I keep finding myself pointing out that no one is ever ready for world war. Not even the Nazis or Japanese in 1939. And they worked very hard to BE ready, but even then they were not. GOP keep saying that we are not ready for war with China. That is no doubt encouraging the Chinese to start one.

We were flat on our back in the Depression when Pearl Harbor was attacked. Far less prepared than we are now.
.
Lamenting that we are not prepared serves what purpose? When did we get ready for a war before it started? Revolutionary War? Hell, no. I am not sure we were ever ready for that war until it was almost over. Civil War? No! Before it started, we were hoping it would not. We only geared up after it started.
.
In WW I and WW II, we were again consumed with isolationism. Both parties’ presidential candidates vowed to stay out of Europe’s war.
.
I do not think China can hit us with a knockout punch. The Japanese tried at Pearl Harbor. They won there and in Philippines quickly, then tied at the Coral Sea, then lost every battle thereafter starting with Midway six months to the day after Pearl Harbor.
.
I think if we get into a war with China it will be a long-distance missile slugfest and will end with the two sides getting tired of it, not with a victory by either side. China and the US are each too big to lose and too far apart with too big of an ocean between them. Neither side can physically cross the ocean and have army troops sweep across the enemy’s home land. Today, troopships would be sunk by missiles.
.
China has 1.4 B people. And how are those Chinese going to cross the Pacific? We have 334M, but that is the third largest on earth and our civilians have more small arms weapons than the China military and the US military combined—literally. Americans own 400M guns in 140 million households. How many Chinese riflemen are going to go up against our 140M armed families? Their whole military is 2M. The whole US military in WW II was 16M.German and Japanese civilians were unarmed.

All the Chicken Little wailing requires militant ignorance of military history.
