The ice on the Political Correctness River is thawing and breaking up

I think the ice on the frozen Political Correctness River is thawing and cracking up. The latest evidence is black comedian Kevin Hartz refusing to apologize again for some remarks about gays he made, retracted, and apologized for years ago. He lost his gig to host this year’s Academy Awards as a result. He’d rather that than kissing up to the PC police. And they are now going to be hosted by no one. Not to mention that no one watches them anymore because of all the left-wing politics all the awardees insist on inserting.
The Northam and Herring black face and/or KKK costume “scandals” showed two aspects of the PC rules weakening: 1. They refuse to resign. 2. They show the Democrats that their Kavanaugh crocodile tears can be used against them, too.
I still am not sure the black face or KKK costume were racist. I do not know what they mean. Changing your appearance to win a Michael Jackson contest or to perform hip hop may be a sign of admiration for Jackson and black hip hop artists. I’m not saying it is, only that it might be.
The minstrel in the Northam photo happened at a time when minstrel shows had passed from American culture. Northam and his classmates likely had no experience with Minstrel shows. I am older than Northam.
I actually attended a minstrel show as a kid in the 1950s. My parents took me. I think it was a Knights of Columbus (Catholic mens club) fund raiser. I never understood and still do not understand what white guys in minstrel blackface was about. It certainly was based on some unflattering stereotype of black people.
Arguably, the singing crows scene in the 1941 Disney movie Dumbo was a minstrel show, but I thought that was done in a way that did not show disrespect for blacks. They seemed to be sort of wanting that aspect of “black” culture in the movie because they thought it would be entertaining.
Anyway, I doubt Northam could explain why a white person wearing minstrel make-up is racist, which I believe he said in his initial apology. I cannot explain it. Oh sure some blacks are offended by it. They are also offended by white clouds, white sugar, and egg whites. To hell with them.
Perhaps the main evidence that the PC River ice is breaking up is Donald Trump is President of the United States. He is a bit of an Archie Bunker in a post-Archie Bunker America but about half of Americans see him as a good-hearted, albeit boorish, guy who loves people and takes them as individuals. I doubt the other half really believe he is racist, but they think calling him that will get them political power so they do it incessantly.
The late founder of Chick-Fil-A once gave $1,000 to Prop 8, CA referendum that opposed gay marriage. It won by the way. The PC police tried to bankrupt Chick-Fil-A to punish the Corporation for the “crime” of its founder. In fact, their sales went up and their store in NYC has lines around the block in spite of Mayor De BLasio’s vocal support of the boycott. My main complaint about our local CFA is it is too crowded. I urged the owner to raise his prices.
A report published by scholars last October says, ‘Among the general population, a full 80 percent believe that “political correctness is a problem in our country.” Even young people are uncomfortable with it, including 74 percent ages 24 to 29, and 79 percent under age 24. On this particular issue, the woke are in a clear minority across all ages.’
More people need to do like Kevin Hartz and just say no to demands that we denounce ourselves—sometimes repeatedly—and jump through hoops held up by the PC police on their command.
Good for Hortham and Herring not resigning. Although I think they, in all other ways, groveled before the PC police. Northam creeps me out. His demeanor, appearance, and voice are all wimpy. His motives appear to be utterly selfish—saving the face he would lose if he resigned. His accent sounds like a KKK anachronism in 2019 Virginia. His racist TV commercial to beat Gillespie should have disqualified him from being governor. The sooner he leaves the mansion and goes to work for Planned Parenthood as a fourth trimester Einsatzgruppen Führer the better (for Virginia, but not for the infants).
Lieutenant governor Fairfax is a whole other matter. He is a stone cold violent criminal. Not a PC matter, although he seems to be using affirmative action and “it would not be PC to force me out and leave the two white guys who did blackface in office” as defenses.
