Test everyone

Posted by John T. Reed on

The Salk polio vaccine was invented when I was in elementary school. As I recall, it was given to all kids ASAP. My brother-in-law got polio after the vaccine was invented. His parents said they were overseas and the vaccine was not available there. I would have sent him to wherever he needed to go to get it.
.
When my oldest son went to China in High school, I researched that. I learned that he should get a special meningitis vaccination. The doctors resisted. I insisted. They special ordered it. He got it.
.
I also told him to never drink the water or ice even on the Air Chia plane leaving out of SFO. Almost every student on his trip got sick. He was the only one who did not.
.
We now have Covid 19. And we have a 100% preventive: quarantine of the infected. So find the infected and quarantine them. Crash project right now like the polio vaccine. One reader said what about false negatives—people who have covid 19 but it is not picked up by the tester.
.
All tests have false positives. I do not know what the percentage would be but probably low, maybe so low that the mistakes would not amount to much. Any new infection cropping up would need to be investigated and that person’s contacts retested.
.
Anyone refusing to get tested would be assumed infected and quarantined.
.
This would work. At present, nothing else does. Therapies and vaccinations being tested for covid 19 may never produced results. We tried to get an AIDS HIV vaccine and never did in 40 years. They DID find a therapeutic cocktail that staves it off after you get it.
.
We have a way to fight covid 19 that works. I see no other alternative. It should be pursued on a crash basis. As each person were tested and passed, they would be cleared to work and go to restaurants and other public gatherings.
.
On the occasion of each new infection, a team of investigators would descend on the patient in question to retest people around him or her.
