Get your kid to sue to stop deficit spending, or GMO, whatever. Name your own doomsday.

Posted by John T. Reed on

60 Minutes tonight had a segment about a bunch of kids who have been suing the federal government over climate change. Where? Oregon. Where else?
.
First, I can play this game, too. My issue is deficit spending and the national debt. Don’t need no scientists. Just a pocket calculator. And I’d be glad to use the same liberal parented kids as my plaintiffs,
.
The female lawyer star talks out of the back of her throat to sound like a child, like Blasey-Ford, and lip-biting Bill Clinton.
.
They said things that I had heard were the opposite of the truth. For example, that the increase in CO2 in the second half of the 20th century causes climate change. My understanding was that the increase in CO2 in the 20th century was mainly in the first half of the 20th century and that was a refutation of the whole theory because use of cars and trucks exploded in the second half of the 20th century and the CO2 exploded (from infinitesimal to twice infinitesimal) in the first half.
.
All doubts are answered with “the scientists” say it not them. I have seen scientists on TV saying it’s hokum. Our local morning radio guy Brian Sussman is a meteorologist who wrote a book saying it’s hokum.
.
A kid who lives on a barrier island feared his home would be gone. Buddy, if you live on a barrier island, as I did when I was your age (Wildwood, NJ), the plain old ocean with or without climate change moves a lot of sand. Especially after a hurricane, the various islands would have lost streets, beaches, houses. After some storms, big beaches would reappear after having disappeared years before. Sand is not considered a great foundation, especially on a barrier island.
.
Anyway, I am not surprised that OR federal judges and the Ninth Circuit, which includes OR, would refuse to dismiss such a case. 60 Minutes said the U.S. Supreme Court upheld some of those refusals to dismiss. A motion to dismiss is not a verdict so I am not ready to draw too many conclusions from that.
.
Folks, in my lifetime—since about 1950 when I was four—there have been numerous threats to Americans that could have also been the target of similar lawsuits. I have a couple of web articles about doomsday books.

Paul Ehrlich said we were all going to die because of overpopulation. Hundreds of millions bought that BS. Why not a suit based on Ehrlich’s crazy theories. When AIDs was first diagnosed, we were all going to die from that. One Time cover story was about global cooling was going to kill us all. Sub-prime lending. Nuclear war. GMO food. Nationwide race war. Deflation. Comet Kahoutek. The Jupiter Effect. Haley’s Comet. Comet Hale-Bopp. North and South pole changing places. Y2K. Blood Moon prophecy.
.
Sue. Sue. Sue. Shut down the Congress and White House. Just let Oregon judges run the country because the Congress and White House cannot be trusted to do it.
.
How about the imminent switch to socialism, which is unconstitutional and has killed millions of people just in the 20 century. Can’t the children sue to protect themselves from that?
.
60 Minutes took this seriously. Shame on them.
.
By the way, climate change people want the amount of carbon dioxide reduced from 400 parts per million.
.
Is carbon dioxide the only greenhouse gas? No. Water vapor is the biggest. How many parts per million of that is in the atmosphere? 20,000 to 30,000 I guess. The more common way to express it is about 2 to 3% of the atmosphere. 400 parts per million is .0004 or .04%.
.
Bunch of bullshit.
