Soliciting reader help in litigation my wife and I are in

Posted by John T. Reed on

A lawsuit has been filed against my wife as executrix of her brother’s death is complicated, albeit small in damage amount. My wife is acting as her own attorney—because the legal fees would surely far exceed the amount in dispute.I need a framework for analysis to manage the complexity. Here is a to-do list that I need to arrange into a manageable format. I may be missing some steps: I assume there are some formats out there created by experienced litigators. I hope some readers can help. Facebook friend Chris Gavin recently did a great job of finding a semi-published case decision...

The difference between good and bad football coaches

Posted by John T. Reed on

What is the difference between good and bad football coaches?John Madden asked Vince Lombardi that question years ago. Vince said the good coaches know exactly what they want.I watched the Spring practices of De La Salle High School years ago. They have the highest winning percentage in the history of the sport. They are about 12 miles from my house. The head coach watched his players and corrected them and made them do it over again until they got it right. He would see and correct any body part being a mere few inches way from the correct position. Talk...

Gimme a break on all this apocalyptic football concussion stuff

Posted by John T. Reed on

The anti-football stuff is getting comical. All movements go to far, and this is another example of it.If you want to outlaw, outlaw injuries, not a sport. An anti-concussion law would change not only football but also soccer, skateboarding, cheerleading, touch football, flag football, ice hockey, field hockey, lacrosse, gymnastics, riding in motor vehicles, forget motorcycles, skiing, boxing, martial arts, baseball, softball, rugby.I played tackle football off and on from sandlot to high school to college intramural at West Point to eight-man tackle in an Army intramural league. I was the second leading scorer on the league champion team. My...

Time for military action in Korea

Posted by John T. Reed on

My Unelected President novel has now, I humbly submit, become mandatory reading for those who want to understand the current level of tension with North Korea. The book was set in real world 2013, but it involves North Kore putting nuke on Scud missiles on submarines, Q ships, and fake yachts. The ICBM myopia—we don’t need to worry until they get 6,000 mile range ICBMs—was always nonsense. My novel reveals that and deals with the threat as it needed to be dealt with—as imminent and needing to be fixed now, not after any “peace in our time” kicking the can down...

Just buy a series of principal residences if you want to get rich

Posted by John T. Reed on

I was asked to talk about regrets in my real estate investing career at FreedomFest last month. One big one is thinking I ever needed tenants and employees. I could have and should have just aggressively bought principal residences. My first property bought 4/15/1969 was a duplex I did not live in because I was a new Army officer and moved seven times in four years including to Vietnam. I did well on that property, but I probably would have done better and spent less time on a non-fixer.After I got out of the Army, I probably just should have bought a...
